However as soon as she started to look for work she found many companies did not want to employ her because she has a hearing impairment.

Increased confidence

Shilpa had started to lose all hope until she discovered our Livelihoods Resource Centre in Bangalore.

She took a two-month training course which helped her to fine-tune her skills but also, more importantly, increase her confidence.

A happy moment

Thanks to the training and support from the resource centre, Shilpa was offered a role at  Shangri-la — a multi-national hotel with branches around the world.

‘I joined the multinational hospitality hotel chain in Bangalore in September 2016 on a salary of Rs.12500 per month. I never expected to earn so much.

‘It was indeed a very happy moment for me. I was appointed to the post of service associate in the laundry department of Shangri-la hotel.’
