Influencing government and parliament

Elected politicians make important decisions which affect the lives of disabled people. With more than 11 million disabled people across the UK it is vital politicians are aware of the issues which matter to them.

At Leonard Cheshire we work closely with politicians from all parties and regions to raise these issues and achieve positive change for disabled people.

We send briefings, respond to government consultations, provide written and oral evidence to committee inquiries, engage with All Party Parliamentary Groups, host receptions and organise meetings to push for change and ensure politicians are fully informed.

Below are just some of the issues we are working on at the moment:

The disability employment gap

Disabled people face significant barriers when finding and sustaining work. We are pressing the government to halve the disability employment gap and want to see sufficient funding for tailored support for all disabled jobseekers.

Social care

We know there is still a lot to do to solve the social care crisis. We want to see the end of rushed and undignified 15-minute care visits and will work with elected politicians to deliver a fair and sustainable funding solution for social care.

Assistive technology

Assistive Technology can play a vital role in supporting people with disabilities to learn, live and communicate. As a founding member of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Assistive Technology we are seeking to highlight this issue within parliament.
